Latest Highlights          Q2 2026

1. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Flows:

FDI Flows in Brunei Darussalam recorded a positive net inflow of BND1,146.5 million in Q2 2026. This growth was driven by an increase in equity investments, which valued at BND1,470.5 million, resulting from higher capital injections and higher profits reinvested. However, debt instruments continued to decline in Q2 2026, totaling -BND324.0 million, as FDI companies in Brunei Darussalam made debt repayments to their parent and sister companies abroad.

The highest FDI flows into Brunei Darussalam were recorded in the Manufacturing sector, amounting to BND896.6 million. This was followed by Mining and Quarrying, which accounted for BND292.8 million, and Financial and Insurance Activities, amounting to BND4.6 million.

2. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Stock:

FDI stock increased by 12.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter, from BND8,894.2 million in Q1 2026 to BND9,988.1 million in Q2 2026. This increase was primarily driven by equity, amounting to BND8,967.2 million which increased by 18.9 per cent. Meanwhile debt instruments declined by 24.4 per cent to BND1,020.9 million.

The Manufacturing sector remained the largest contributor to FDI stock in Q2 2026, accounting for 49.0 per cent, followed by the Mining and Quarrying sector at 27.9 per cent, and Financial and Insurance Activities at 13.5 per cent. By country, Hong Kong SAR was the main contributor to FDI stock in Brunei Darussalam at 44.4 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 26.0 per cent and the Netherlands at 7.2 per cent.
